Austin Lamewona is a playwright and lyricist from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the creator and librettist of Octets: A New Musical and started writing the show back in 2015. He was also the director and co-producer of the Studio 88 Workshop Production of Octets in April of 2018.
Austin has written several other plays, including Next, which is published with Off The Wall Plays, and A Night with the Dream Keeper, which appeared in the 2016 Cincinnati Fringe Festival and won the 2016 Against the Grain International student playwriting competition. His favorite plays include In the Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Fences by August Wilson. He is currently a Junior at Miami University where he studies marketing, arts management, and theatre.
Nick Witzeman is a singer-songwriter from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the composer of Octets: A New Musical and started writing music for the show in the summer of 2016. He was the music director and originated the role of Clay in the Studio 88 workshop production of Octets in April of 2018.
In addition to composing music for the stage, he writes and performs as a singer-songwriter; his second full-length album, titled Vocations, was released in February of 2018. His music is harmonically rich and jazz-inflected. He counts Joni Mitchell, Tom Jobim, Stephen Sondheim, and Stevie Wonder among his musical idols (though he'd hesitate to call them "influences" per se). He currently lives in Toronto and is pursuing his educational and music careers.
Bethany is an electronic media major at the University of Cincinnati. She spent 3 months living in eastern Africa, interning at a TV studio in Dar es Salaam. She is currently in the post-production phase of a documentary on the Tanzanian music industry and a documentary on the inspiring life of Octopizzo, the 1st African artist to be invited to the Grammy's.
In addition to designing the original images for Octets, she directed a music video for a local artist & several short films, one of which has been shown at the Cincinnati film festival. She designed an official match poster for FC Cincinnati, and the logos of several companies & organizations and made countless posters, flyers, & ads for events.
Originally from Pickerington, Ohio, Michael Smith is a current Junior at Miami University studying marketing and musical theatre. He is excited to serve as the marketing director for Octets: A New Musical and joined the team in the summer of 2018. He also originated the role of Dwayne in the Studio 88 workshop production of Octets in April of 2018.
Outside of performing, Michael has been a part of the marketing team for some Miami University Department of Theatre mainstage productions. He is also a contributing writer for the arts and culture sections of The Miami Student, the oldest college newspaper west of the Allegheny Mountains. Michael recently finished his time working as a summer PR & Content Development intern with the Contemporary Dance Theater in Cincinnati. He really enjoyed being a part of CDT and hopes to work in the arts and entertainment industry for years to come.
Julia Jones, originally from a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, is the company manager for Octets: A New Musical. Starting out as the stage manager for the Studio 88 performances of Octets and a stage manager by trade, some of her favorite stage management credits include: Almost, Maine, Urinetown: The Musical, and Big Fish. Julia has also been an employee of Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio (the second largest performing arts center in the country) since her junior year of high school, where she had the opportunity to work first-hand on the US Tours of and/or related events for The Phantom of the Opera, An American In Paris, The Sound of Music, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Hamilton, as well as several live concerts and festivals.
Outside of theatre, Julia is a student at Miami University, where she is a double major in human capital management & leadership and arts management, with a minor in business legal studies. She is also heavily involved in the marching band and pep band at Miami University, as well as her sorority, Tau Beta Sigma. Julia is incredibly excited to continue being a part of the Octets team in her second year at Miami. Post-graduation, she plans to work in theatrical production or management.
