An ongoing journey
IN OCTETS: A NEW MUSICAL, A BITTER FEUD BETWEEN LONGTIME RIVALS SPARKS A TURF WAR BETWEEN TWO COLLEGIATE SINGING GROUPS. CASUALTIES INCLUDE A BROKEN BROMANCE, A HOPELESS QUEST FOR TRAVEL, AND AN ENSEMBLE OF CHARACTERS PERPETUALLY STRUGGLING TO GAIN SOME SEMBLANCE OF CONTROL OVER THEIR PERSONAL LIVES.
Octets started as a goofy song called “welcome to the Club”, in which several different characters introduced themselves. After two years of hard work and determination, the script and score developed into a full-fledged, two-act, 24-song musical.
Librettist, Austin Lamewona, and composer, Nick Witzeman, both Miami University students during the initial stages of the show, decided to self-produce Octets.
The Octets team put together 4 performances with the original Studio 88 cast at Miami University in April 2018, and spent the following summer recording every song from the show and reworking the script. Fast forward to today, and the team is working hard on putting together the next step in this journey.
